As I promised on my New Year’s post, I am finally writing a tutorial on how I achieve my wavy every day curls. These curls are much easier than they seem — it only takes me about 10 minutes in the morning to complete. The most amazing thing about these curls is that it really pulls any look together and makes you seem like you spent hours getting ready in the morning when we all know we really didn’t. 😉
Begin by brushing out your clean, dry hair. This is a totally hair faux-pas, but I wash my hair every morning, so it’s really important for me to hydrate my ends. I love to apply amika’s The Wizard Multi-Benefit Primer to prep my hair for the heat and I think it keeps my locks healthy while giving my curls a shiny, more natural look.
After applying hair primer, split your hair into two large sections, left and right. Bring both sections in front of your shoulder and make sure there is no hair left behind in the back. It’s so crucial to make sure of this because you don’t want any straight, uncurled pieces in your final look. After both sections are in front, work from back to front in vertical 1 inch pieces and begin curling each piece.
To get loose, effortless waves, I use the amika 1.25 inch curling wand (the largest barrel in their 4 piece collection) set to 350 degrees. Don’t adjust the heat setting too high because we don’t want the curls to be too bouncy. To curl the 1 inch section of hair, wrap it around the curling wand away from your face, leaving about 1 inch of hair unwrapped on the bottom, and hold it for 5-7 seconds. After you release it from the heat, hold the piece in your palm (still wrapped) for just 1-2 seconds while it cools a little and throw it over your shoulder. You’re done with that piece! Yay! 🙌🏼 Repeat for both sides of hair until all your hair is curled.
The amika 4 pc barrel collection actually comes with a curling glove to protect your hand from the heat. I highly suggest using it because it makes this look so fail-proof. The last thing you want is a burn on your cute hands when you have cute hair, right? 😅
After all your hair is curled, bring all your hair into the front and gently brush it out with your fingers. We want to separate the individual strands to make them all blend together. Then, just pull out 1-2 inches of hair at a time from the blended hair and re-separate the strands. This part seems redundant but it really creates a more natural look than the curler itself can give.
Since I live in humid NYC, I finish off my curls by lightly spraying all my hair with the amika Touchable Hairspray. It makes my curls last all day, super soft and smell like flowers, which is amazing! 💐
Ta Da! You are done! This look is so perfect for Valentine’s Day coming up real soon — it’s so effortless and feminine. I love curling my hair to give it some extra volume and to spruce up my look a little! Good luck! 💕
