When we decided to go to Bali, we knew that the Monkey Forest was a top on our list. And it was SURREAL. 🐒
Going to the Monkey Forest was the craziest experience — it was at most a 15 minute walk from our hotel, Bisma Eight, but there are no signs of any monkeys until you hit the main road that leads up to the monkey temple. As soon as you turned that corner, you see monkeys climbing on the roofs of convenience stores, blocking traffic in the streets, interacting with humans, it was so unbelievable.
Once we entered the forest, it was monkeys-gone-wild (actually, monkeys in their nature habitat 🙈🌳), jumping around and climbing on anyone who had food. We made the mistake of being overly eager and buying bananas right when we walked in, and a monkey jumped on me almost immediately to steal them! I got really freaked out because the monkey completely took me by surprise, but we found some much friendlier baby monkeys once we were more in the forest.
I ended up befriending a couple young monkeys because they were confused about my dress, haha. They were tugging on my sleeves and climbing on my shoulders to play with the fabric — I think they definitely thought I was a giant banana!! 😂🍌 We took so many pictures of the baby monkeys because they were so adorable, too and once we get through the initial shock of monkeys galore, it was actually really cool seeing the monkeys in their natural environment. A must for anyone traveling to Bali (and likes monkeys, haha)!! 🐵
